Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Answers to questions related to the calculation algorithm

Common Questions

1. Where does BiliTool.Vn get its reference data?

The calculation tool on BiliTool.Vn is completely free, translated, and mathematically modeled from a pure cubic spline interpolation algorithm to systematically and automatically reconstruct the **Clinical Practice Guideline of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) updated in 2022**. In addition, the calculation structure of Age in Hours is also established according to Vietnamese medical regulations.

2. Which pediatric patients can be evaluated using this platform?

Calculations and representations on the system are medically valid only when applied to newborn infants with a **gestational age of 35 weeks or older (>= 35 weeks gestation)**. Preterm infants under 35 weeks gestational age have lower liver function and neurotoxicity thresholds; therefore, it is mandatory to use separate standard protocols, such as the low birth weight guidelines of the National Institute of Nutrition, the NICE charts in the UK, or the local standards of individual Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).

3. Is the entered laboratory value direct or total bilirubin?

The 2022 AAP update inherits a very important point from 2004: it recommends using the blood biochemical test value **Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB)** to input into the calculation tool. Please note: Even if Direct Bilirubin is elevated, you **DO NOT** need to and **MUST NOT** subtract the direct value from the TSB total before entering it into the software, to avoid misinterpreting the phototherapy indications for the patient.

4. Can I integrate this automated chart into my hospital's Electronic Medical Record?

BiliTool.Vn supports a compatible module for embedding via iframe or pop-up link for Hospital Information Systems (HIS/EMR) through RESTful API protocols and Deep Link parameters via URL. This allows hospitals to transmit vital signs and laboratory results automatically instead of requiring users to type them manually. Please navigate to the HIS Integration tab on the menu to reference the technical documentation for developers.
